NBA Nicknames

Creating solid nicknames seems to be a lost art with the aliases that NBA players have today. The latest and lamest trend in nicknames in today's sports is initials and single letter prefixes. The initial nickname is by far the laziest form of a nickname. Kevin Garnet claims the nickname of KG. KG? Really? Where is the creativity? Now I know he has one of the good nicknames in the Big Ticket so why is KG even still around? Other culprits include...

CP3 - Chris Paul #3
CB4 - Chris Bosh #4
AI - Allen Iverson / Andre Iguodala

The single letter prefix is almost as lazy as the initials. Baseball made it famous by creating A-rod for Alex Rodriguez. Some ballers have tried it out like Deron Williams going with D-Will. Lets discuss some of the current stars of the NBA and their nicknames.

Kobe Bryant - Black Mamba
Recently this nickname got bashed on ESPN by both Jalen Rose and Barry Melrose. I respectively disagree. The Black Mamba is original and will never be repeated. The Black Mamba is one of the worlds most deadliest snakes and it can attack at 99 percent accuracy, similar to Kobe himself.
Lebron James - King James
New Nickname - Prince James
This one bothers me, especially since he was dubbed King James way to early in his career. You can't be a King until you earn the crown and as of now King doesnt have his Crown. He is working and fighting for it right now but until that crown comes to Castle Cleveland, all you are is a Prince.
Andrei Kirilenko - AK-47
This is the only circumstance in which the initials number combination is acceptable. AK the initials and 47 his number works on another level. Kirilinko is from Russia and the deadly AK-47 originated in Russia. Any nickname that refers to your home country and one of its most deadly inventions is fine with me.
Kevin Durant - Durantula
New Nickname - Stretch
This one I enjoy, and I have give credit to JE Skeets of the Basketball Jones for coining this one. It is creative and a nice play on his name. Someone has to defend it a little more in terms of Durantula describing the type of Game that Durant has. Unless you were given a nickname before you started playing sports by a grandma or neighborhood friend, the name has to do your game justice. Durant has ridiculous reach with those lanky arms and uses them to his advantage. You heard it here first boys and girls, Kevin Durant you are now Stretch.
Dwight Howard - Superman
This nickname is perfect. Looking at Howard the last thing you think is ordinary human so he must be Super Man. Also it doesn't hurt that he flew through the air during the dunk contest on national TV two years ago.
Dirk Nowitzki - Dirkus Circus
Again the great JE Skeets of Basketball Jones coined this one and it fits beautifully. Dirk is the ring leader of the circus shot. Off balance, completely unorthodox, legs kicking in the wrong direction, getting bumped, and he still manages to make clutch shot after clutch shot. If Mr. Big Shot, Chauncey Billups, wasn't already taken Dirk would have rights to it.

Pick of the Night

Memphis Grizzlies -1.5 at Detroit Pistons

The Grizzlies are now 23 and 11 since their 1-8 start. As of now they would be the 7th seed in the West and a dangerous 7 seed at that. Taking down the likes of the Suns, Jazz, Trailblazers, Spurs, Thunder and Magic in recent weeks. The Pistons on the other hand have been very disappointing this season even with adding prolific scorer Ben Gordon. The Grizzlies are in the process proving to the rest of the league that they are no longer a slouch in this league. This is a game that they are supposed to win, rarely have the Grizzlies been in the position where they are supposed to win. Grizzlies minus only 1.5 points seems like a logical choice to me.

Grizzlies over Pistons - Scuttlebutt Record - (14-19)
Last pick, Tarheels -1 over Wolfpack, resulted in a Win with the Heels ending their losing streak with a 77-63 win.

Pick of the Night

North Carolina Tarheels -1 vs North Carolina State Wolfpack

North Carolina is in desperate need of a win as they have lost three in a row in the ACC and are in danger of not making the big dance if they keep playing they way they are. Roy Williams is going to get his guys as prepared as possible against rival NC State and get a much needed win. If UNC could limit turnovers by even 20% their season could be a lot different at this point. But turnovers seem to be part of the Heels identity this year and it doesn't seem like they are going to change. UNC wins a sloppy one tonight.

  • Bruce Pearl quote

Moment of the Night

Lebron having some fun

In front of a packed arena in his home town, Lebron was just about done finishing off the Lakers for the second time this season. The game that was built up all day on ESPN was almost over. The Cavs had possession with a slim lead with about 30 seconds to play. Out of the timeout the Arena Music was still playing and the camera, like it almost always is, was on James. What we then saw was a guy enjoying what he does for a living. People criticize Lebron for dancing around on the bench and in timeouts and not respecting the game. What people have to realize is the guy is playing a game for a living, and making some serious cash doing so. Why wouldn't you have fun with it. It is refreshing seeing a guy with tons of talent look like hes actually enjoying himself for once.

Stat Line of the Night

Pick of the Night

Dallas Mavericks -3 at Philadelphia 76ers

The Scuttlebutt losing streak continues and I am getting desperate. The Mavs were favored by 3.5 a couple nights ago against the Wiz and only won by one point. This line looks nice for the Mavericks and I am hoping looks will not be deceiving. The Mavericks are one of the best teams in the strong West while the 76ers are still a weak team in the even weaker East. Dirk is an MVP candidate and Iverson is the only likely All Star on the Sixers, he shouldn't be but I guess it is what the fans want. At this point I am begging you Mavericks to beat this spread.

Thursday's Bad Ass

Ronnie Lott

Ronnie Lott is one of the best athletes to ever play the game of football. In USC it was only the great Marcus Allen that prevented Lott from starting at running back at USC. Lott came into the NFL and made his presence known immediately. He was a force on defense for a very successful 49ers team. But what you ask separates him from any other incredible and tough defensive player that makes him this weeks Bad Ass? Well put your bowl of cheerios down for a minute and enjoy.

Ronnie Lott and the Niners were taking on rival Dallas in their last regular season game before the playoffs. While making a tackle during the game, Lott's finger got stuck, twisted, and hit in a freak way that it crushed the bone in his pinky finger. After the game, the team doctor informed Lott that in order for his finger to heal properly he would need immediate surgery that would prevent him from playing in the playoffs. Lott had none of this. He played in the playoffs with a lot of pain and a crushed bone floating around in his finger. The Niners lost the game and Lott lost his finger. Lott re-injured his finger many times throughout the game and was then forced to have part of his finger amputated.

Let me repeat this, the man played football with a crushed bone knowing he would have to amputate it so he could play in the playoffs. Again, the man had his finger amputated for a football game!!! This ultimate symbol of toughness, competitiveness, and unwillingness to quit on his team makes you Ronnie Lott, Bad Ass.

Pick of the Night

Cleveland Cavaliers -3.5 vs L.A. Lakers

What a game on the slate tonight. Kobe vs Lebron square off as their puppets sit back at home to enjoy the show. Cleveland dominated the Christmas Day matchup so you know the Lake show will be looking to even the score tonight. The Lakers are healthy ish again and want to make a statement. Lebron, at this point in his career, seems more like a showman than a guy who will do anything to win a championship. Lebron may put on a show tonight but it will be the Lakers who will come out on top.

Lakers over Cavs - Scuttlebutt Record - (13-17)
Last pick, Mavericks -4.5 over Wizards, resulted in a Loss with the Mavericks not beating the spread winning by just one point, 94-93.

Staying in San Fran

The most underrated Catcher in Baseball resigns with the Giants

Over his three season stay in San Francisco, Giants catcher has performed better than people even realize. For some reason this guy gets kept out of great hitting catcher discussions every year. Here are his season stats for the last three seasons as a Giant...

2007
.276 avg 19 hr 81 rbi

2008
.292 avg 16 hr 95 rbi

2009
.265 avg 20 hr 80 rbi

For those counting at home, that is a three season avg of... .278 avg 18 hr 85 rbi. Compare that to stud Braves backstop and perennial top 5 rated catcher Brian McCann... .284 avg 21 hr 91 rbi.

Bengie is creeping up in age but he can still produce and should be appreciated more than he is.

Why we love Sports

The Off Season

Sometimes actual games don't even have to be played for us to enjoy the sport. Baseball takes up over half the year and yet some of the most exciting and enjoyable moments happen in the off season. It is the off season when everyone is in first place. The Yankees are no closer to winning the World Series than the Royals are in the off season. Once the season starts that is definitely a different story. But it is the off season that gives hope and excitement. A simple report of a young player winning the starting third base job has every fan thinking about great success for that player and the team. Many transactions are made every single off season.

For Patriots fans a couple seasons ago it was the addition of All Pro and All exciting wide reciever Randy Moss joining Tom Brady and the Patriots. It was the Clippers drafting once every ten years talent Blake Griffin in the off season Draft (he went down with injury his last preseason game and now will miss the rest of the season, oh clippers fans). For Mets fans it was the off season trade and signing of Cy Young pitcher Johan Santana that had them forgetting the late season collapse that resulted in missing the playoffs. Sometimes it doesn't even take a big acquisition for the off season to be loved.

Unveiling a new stadium or arena in the off season gets everyone excited for the season to start. It was Citi Field last season and this year it is the Twinns Target Field. New Uniforms being announced is always exciting, especially for superstitious fans who feel it will bring a championship to the team. You don't think the Buccaneers fan base was going nuts the off season they saw their new unis and said good bye to the creamsicles? Although there is no actual games played in the off season, it gives us as fans many things to get excited about and to love. Heres to you off season for you are another reason why we love sports!

Dallas Mavericks -4.5 at Washington Wizards

I really need a victory here as I have lost 5 picks in a row. Looking through all the NBA action tonight this looked like the most sure thing to bet on since the question, "Is Big Mac on roids?" Dallas is one of the top 5 teams in the NBA right now and should have no trouble beating the wandless Wizards by 5 or more. The Wizards are having all kinds of troubles this season, on and off the court. Antawn Jamison is a great player stuck in an awful situation. As good as he and his number are this season, he can not single handedly stay with Dirk and the Mavs.

I love Dwyane Wade and watching the heat play, that is when they play well. The Heat look like a top 5 team for stretches but then other stretches they turn into the Miami Wade as he is the only one playing well. Tonight the Pacers will want this one more and will play with some fire behind former Notre Dame star Troy Murphy. With 6.5 points the Pacers take this one down in Miami.

Moment of the Night

NBDL Call up wins it for the Jazz

Recent NBDL call up Sundiata Gaines played some valuable minutes at the point for the Jazz after Deron Williams went down with a wrist injury. After Lebron seemed to steal one from the Jazz on the road scoring 18 in the final minutes to build a 6 point lead with less than a minute to go, first Korver hit a fall away over the backboard and then Gaines pulled off some of his own magic hitting a three over Anthony Parker to give the Jazz a one point victory.

Pick of the Weekend

Arizona Cardinals +7 at New Orleans Saints

The NFC playoffs this weekend are looking mighty interesting with any team having a great chance at advancing. The Cardinals offense, running and passing, was phenomenal last week against the Packers and I expect nothing to change against the Saints. The Saints defense has struggled against the likes of Tampa Bay and Carolina. I don't see them shutting down Warner, Fitz, and Anquan. Brees and his offense on the other hand hasn't been as dominate as they were early on in the season but have had two weeks to prepare and get back on track. Like most people I see this as a high scoring slug fest that should stay close throughout. The Cardinals stay closeand in the end come out on top.

Included on this track are hockey style boards, sharp turns, and even jumps. These athletes race down this track bumping each other the whole way down. This is easily the most bad ass form of racing I have ever seen. This must be in the 2014 Olympics so the rest of the world will know that Red Bull Crashed Ice is in fact, BAD ASS!

(14) Gonzaga Bulldogs +4.5 at St. Marys Gaels

For years now the Gaels have been the Zag's top competition in the conference but have not been able to overtake them. This year might be the year. Gonzaga's offense runs through Bouldin and he is having another great season. Bouldin and his shaggy hair are averaging 15 points and 5 assists on the season. St. Mary's 6' 11" center Omar Samhan leads the Gaels with a 20 and 10 average. St. Mary's has won 12 of the last 13 games this season and there only two losses on the season came to Vanderbilt early in the season and a pretty good USC team. St. Mary's has what it takes to send the Zag's down a notch in the West Coast Conference and get the automatic bid into this year's tourny. St. Mary's gains a lot of attention tonight after midnight eastern time with a big win over Gonzaga.

Why we love sports

Unimportant Half Court Shots

There are only two different point values you can achieve while making a shot on a basketball court. A two pointer and a three pointer. Anything beyond that 23 foot 9 inch arch is worth 3 points. Whether it is an inch beyond that line or 50 feet, it is still 3 points. But that doesn't mean that the excitement level is not through the roof when you back it up to the half court line. Maybe once a game a team inbounds the ball with about a second to go and has to heave a half to full court shot to try and steal a couple more points before the quarter ends. Many times the score is not close and the basket does not make any difference in the games final tally yet everyone stands up off their seat in anticipation as the ball leaves the hands at three quarters court.

On the rare occasion that the ball clanks off the backboard and finds its way through the cylinder causing fans to explode with joy. Its as if everyone in attendance just found the winning lottery ticket in their pocket. The basket still counts as 3 but to us it is so much more. This is a H.O.R.S.E shot that we get the treat of seeing happen in an actual game. Whether its Jordan, Lebron, Love, a High Schooler or your dad, the unimportant half to full court shot is suddenly Important. For all of you who sacrifice three point percentage for entertainment and a chance at hitting the full court lottery, we thank you for giving us another reason for loving sports.

(13) North Carolina Tarheels +4 at (19) Clemson Tigers

The Defending champions are having a tough time defending their championship. That is probably because they are without all five starters from last season due to graduation and the lure of the NBA and their money. Despite this, Roy Williams has recruited excellently and the young Heels are still in the top 15 in the country. Trevor Booker of Clemson is having a sensational season averaging around 14 and 8 for the year. North Carolina is the higher ranked team but is given 4 points on the road. North Carolina is looking for a signature win to legitimize the #13 rank. The depth at bigs and the run and gun style UNC runs will get them a close win tonight at Clemson.

(24)Butler Bulldogs vs Wright State Raiders Pick em game

There is no spread in this game which now somewhat scares me. Butler is number 24 in the country yet they are not favored by anything. This must mean Wright State is semi descent. I love the way Butler plays great team basketball with some exciting and unique players. I have been pretty bad at picking the college games but ill give it another shot. Butler wins a close won like they should.

Butler over Wright State - Scuttlebutt Record - (12-11)
Last night's pick, Texas +4 over Alabama, resulted in a loss as Alabama won the game 37-21. I am not counting this against me for a loss as McCoy was knocked out of the game a couple minutes in. As creator of this blog I am perfectly happy and capable of making this call.

Thursday's Bad Ass

Helmet less Players

Losing your helmet should be a cause for concern. A player's helmet is perhaps the most important piece of equipment they put on each and everyday. The helmet protects the player from serious injury and perhaps embarrassment if they have an ugly mug. In certain situations a helmet does come flying off and the player at this moment has two choices.

A. Slow down during the play, get out of harms way, and grab your helmet. This is understandable. Football, hockey, or whatever sport you are playing with a helmet (Note: any extreme sports athletes who regularly compete without a helmet are just dumb asses not bad asses) does not last forever and you just might need those brain cells for something later in life.
B. Completely ignore the fact that a piece of your armor just fell off and get even angrier in attempt to chase down the ball carrier, gain control of the puck, or even score a touchdown.

If you are a bad ass, many of you are not, you will choose B. Watching a long greasy haired linebacker chase down a running back and make a blistering hit on him without a helmet, get up and yell at the top of his lungs without a face mask to hide his expression is simply glorious. For all you crazy athletes who play on, helmet or no helmet, we salute you because you sir, are Bad Ass!

Playoff Preview - Eagles vs Cowboys

Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys - Saturday at 8:00

Quarterback

Donavon McNabb has somehow survived as the starting quarterback in Philly since the year 2000. It seems like every year the fans want him out and to bring in someone else. At one time they thought it was a better idea to start someone by the name of Detmer instead of him. But McNabb has survived because he is a great quarterback. The Eagles never have a dominate WR (Terrell Owens for one year was the best he ever had unless you want to count Freddie Mitchell and his Mohawk) and throw the ball more than anyone else. Jay Cutler is in a very similar situation this season. McNabb has been in this situation his whole career. Little to play with out of the WR position and a playbook that apparently had the run plays ripped out long ago. Cutler threw nearly 30 INTs and has people calling him a bust because of this. McNabb is great because he puts up big numbers and still plays the game safe when he has little help. He can save plays with his arm, legs, and his brain.
Tony Romo has alot of talent and is very fun to watch play (maybe not all the time for Cowboys fans but for the rest of us his improv and sometimes foolish decisions are entertaining). Romo's play seems to coincide with how Dallas is playing. The question is, does he have his good games when the whole team is playing well or does the way he play influence the rest of the team. I think it is a little of both. Rarely is Romo seen taking over a game or do we see him as the only bright spot in a bad game. He has all the skills in the world but has to get over the stigma that he is not clutch to be considered a great quarterback today (The Romo not being clutch argument has always felt a little unfair to me). He is off to a good start this season with a couple of big December wins.

The Eagles and McNabb get the edge as McNabb has played in all situations and done well. Whether fans are on his side or not or if it is the playoffs or preseason he has proven he can get it done.

Running Backs

Marion Barber and Felix Jones are great compliments for each other. Barber is the smash mouth back who gets the tough yards and Jones is the big play threat with speed. Barber has had a little bit of a down year but should be fresh missing some time with injuries.
LeSean McCoy of the Eagles is only a rookie and is filling in nicely for the often injured Brian Westbrook. McCoy gives the Eagles a certain future at running back with a similar guy to Westbrook. He is great in both the running and passing game and has big play ability.

If Brian Westbrook was completely healthy the Eagles would have the edge in the running back battle. Westbrook is hurt though, so the hit and take names later style of barber and the finesse and speed of Jones give the Cowboys the running back edge.

Wide Recievers

Miles Austin and Jason Witten, yes Jason Witten, are two great pass catchers. Roy Williams does get beat out in this situation as one of the top two threats to catch a ball. Roy was good on the Lions because no one cared if he dropped a ball in the fourth quarter when your winless and down by 20. In Dallas, you kinda get noticed. Austin has emerged as one of the better wide receivers in the game, please don't turn into Braylon Edwards, and it is fun to see a successful wide reciever not demand the ball or money (it is only his first successful season so he still has time to Keyshawn Johnson himself). Witten is one of the most reliable and skilled tight ends in the league and gives defense all kinds of fits in deciding who is going to cover him.

Desean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin are two young studs at the wide reciever position and for years to come should make quite the duo. For now Desean is legit and Maclin, to me, is still proving himself. Desean is the greatest big play wide receiver right now and should be the biggest play maker on the field this Saturday. Maclin has shown similar ability in his rookie season and has quietly had some big games.

Jackson and Maclin win this battle. Even though Maclin is still in the process of proving himself, Roy Williams just hurts the Cowboys too much for them to have the better pass catchers.

Offensive Line

The Cowboys offensive line is in the middle of the road at protecting Romo and at the top at number 3 in yards per rushing attempt. Romo tends to try and make things happen so some of those sacks are on him and not on the O-Line. The running game is definitely on them. The cowboys average 4.8 yards per attempt (best among playoff teams) and can win games simply by running the ball.
The Eagles offensive line rank 14th and 12th in running the ball and protecting the quarterback. They are your average offensive line. Averaging a respectable 4.3 yards per attempt gets the job done and has no one complaining.

The Cowboys win this one pretty easily with the dominance of their run blocking.

Defense

The Cowboys defense ranks second to only the Jets in points against at only 15.6 per game. They are also in the top ten in yards per game against. The Cowboys, who got off to an awful start sacking the quarterback, finished 7th in the league with 42 sacks on the season. They have alot of playmakers on the defensive side of the ball and when they are playing together properly, like they have the last two games which have both been shutouts, they are nearly impossible to score on.
The Eagles defense is third in sacks and fourth in interceptions. They have the ability to make big plays in this regard and these plays can win or lose you a ball game. In points per game allowed they rank in the lower half giving up just over 19 a game, not too bad, and rank 12th in yards per game against. The Eagles have a great corner in Asante Samuel and rely on big plays on defense.

The overall play from everyone on the Cowboy's defense and not needing the big play give them the edge in a single game analysis of defenses.

Pick of the Night

Alabama Crimson Tide -4 vs Texas Longhorns - National Championship

Tonight is the final night of college football. It has been a long season with little change at the top as Florida, Texas, and Alabama rotated the top three spots all year long. In the final week of the season, Texas struggled against a weaker Nebraska team and avoided defeat with a last second field goal. Alabama on the other hand manhandled the defending champion Florida Gators. Coming into this game Alabama looks like a clear favorite after each teams previous performances. Alabama has the great defense, played in the supposively better conference, and has the Heisman winner in their backfield (Mark Ingram). Texas on the other hand has the winningest quarterback in College Football History (Colt McCoy) and a high powered passing attack. For the third straight BCS bowl I am going with the underdog.

Texas over Alabama - Scuttlebutt Record - (12-11)
Last pick, Memphis +8 over Syracuse, resulted in a Loss with the Orange winning 74-57.

Why we love sports

Athletic and Skilled Big Men

Most big men are just that, big. There is not much to them. They were gifted with incredible size and the logical choice of a career, besides volleyball, is basketball. They acquire a two foot shot and simple post moves and for the next 10-15 years they will make about 50 times more than you make in your life. But every now and then a big man seperates himself from the usually clumsy big man.

These big men play the game like they are 6 foot 6 instead of 7 feet. In the case of Dirk Nowitzki they are more comfortable shooting threes than backing you down. A man like Dwight Howard flys through the air like Jordan but has the height of Shaq and the body built like a boxer. Little is more fun than watching a guy that has to duck when he walks into most homes do things that most NBA players can not do. So we thank you athletic big man, for your amazing skills and always surprising athleticism is one more reason why we love sports.

Playoff Preview - Jets vs Bengals

New York Jets vs Cincinnati Bengals - Saturday at 4:30

Quarterbacks

Mark Sanchez started off his rookie campaign in spectacular fashion. In only his second game Mark Sanchez helped lead his Jets to a 16-9 victory over the power house rival Patriots. Sanchez went 14/22 for 163 yards and 1 TD. Ever since that game, besides a couple more high notes, Sanchez statistics have looked more like the rookie he is than the aberration at the start of the season. Because of their top ranked defense and running game, Sanchez has been asked to now just not make many mistakes and manage the game. That is what he has done for the most part to bring them into the playoffs (they better have sent the Colts a thank you card).
Carson Palmer has also been aided by a great running game and good defense. The difference between Sanchez and Palmer is that Palmer can shoulder the load for a game or two or a season. He has the talent but has not had to use it with the way they control the clock with running the ball and playing good defense. His stats have not been his best (3000 yards and just 21 TDs) but hes has been both consistent and huge in the clutch. Palmer has thrown a game winning or tying TD with less than 2 minutes to play against the Steelers, browns, Ravens, and Chiefs.

Palmer's consistency and ability to get it done when the game is on the line gives the Bengals a big edge in the Quarterback battle.

Running Backs

Thomas Jones might be the least respected running back in the NFL. Thomas has rushed for over 1,000 yards for five straight years now and over 1,200 4 of those five years. Jones ran for 1,402 with 14 TDs this season. Jones is a tough back that can hit the big play at any second. He doesn't have blazing speed but he also doesn't lose any speed as the game goes on.
Cedric Benson, Larry Johnson, Bernard Scott have now become a three headed monster. Well not quite. They have three high quality running backs, it wasnt too long ago that Larry Johnson was flirting with 2,000 yard seasons, and can switch them in and out at ease. But that is not what they usually do. The Bengals try to find one main guy for the game, usually Cedric Benson, and compliment him with Larry and Bernard. The three all have starting running skills and some say Bernard Scott could soon be a Chris Johnson like back.

The depth and versatility of the Bengals three backs give a slight edge to the Bengals. Sorry Jones, prove me wrong like you have been proving to everyone this season.

Wide Recievers

Jericho Cotchery and Braylan Edwards are decent but not game changing wide receivers. Braylon Edwards was great at Michigan and had an amazing year in Cleveland but its been too long since then to call him a great WR. He is a good WR with below par hands with play making ability. Jericho Cotchery is more of a number one guy than Braylan. he has good hands, good speed, and is a favorite target of Sanchez
Chad Ochocinco and Andre Caldwell make up a pretty good receiving duo. Ochocinco is one of the best route runners in the league. A couple of seasons ago he was considered a top 5 WR and should still be atleast in the top 10 now. Caldwell his a great possession guy who is great at finding the weak spot in the opposing defenses zones.

The overall skill and entertainment level of the Bengals give them an easy win in terms of wide receivers.

Offensive Line

The Jets offensive line is an above average pass blocking line in protecting their young rookie quarterback and a fantastic run blocking line. The Jets lead the NFL in total rushing yards with 2,756 yards and the 7th best yards per carry with 4.5.
The Bengals offensive line is simply average pass blocking. They protect Palmer decently for him being an immobile quarterback. The Bengals have surprised everyone with a great running game on a team that historically has succeeded through the air.

This toss up is not really close with the Jets dominate running game and above average pass blocking.

Defense

The Jets defense is dominant. They allow the fewest points per game (14.8) and yards per game (252.3) in the NFL. In just his third season Darrelle Revis has become the best shut down corner in the league. Revis has shut down the likes of Ochocinco, Colston, Moss, and many others.

The Bengals defense could be the most improved defense in the league and is now the strong point of their team. With the offense overall average, the defense has carried them to a playoff birth.

The Jets win this match up with ease. Revis and the rest of the Jets are the best defense in the league let alone this game.
